Adventures of Comic Book Girl: Mary Sue, what are you? or why the concept of Sue is sexist

adventuresofcomicbookgirl:

Looks like this essay was needed, so I went ahead and did it. Not sure I said everything I wanted to say, but I tried.

So, there’s this girl. She’s tragically orphaned and richer than anyone on the planet. Every guy she meets falls in love with her, but in between torrid romances she rejects…

Come to think of it, yeah. »

I mean, i personally try not to make Sues because I dont WANT a power fantasy, or a self-insert (though sometimes it slips in way to easy) I want to be able to make someone fresh and new and from a completely different part of my mind.

I am rather guilty of accusing characters that annoy me as being “sue’s” but that makes me more at fault than the poor RPer who im mentally beating with a stick just because their character doesnt seem as well thought out as mine, or is chasing after every guy they can while being “so inexperianced and pure” (that ones more of a thing where id rather they just OWN the promiscuity)

just…. yeah.
